Japan and its uniqueness

Cooperation relationship between Indonesia and other Asia countries are growing rapidly, it can be a bilateral or multilateral cooperation relationship which made Indonesia contributes itself in business and economic cooperation or others sectors worldwide. Japan in East Asia and Indonesia in Southeast Asia region create a relationship between two mother tongues of each country. The culture and language differences between two countries are demanding a communication understanding regarding each purpose which has been fixed beforehand. Time passed by, people who learn and put some interest towards Japanese in Indonesia keeps increasing, and creating possibility to become messenger from one party to another.

The similarities between other foreign languages, learning process of Japanese language isn't that easy and simple. Old habit and the way of speaking in mother tongue, Indonesian language, is influencing the acceptance and management of Japanese language's which causing a different way to think of those language learners. Learning new language doesn't mean only memorizes those new vocabs and understanding the grammar, but also learning its culture and behavior of native speaker. A Japanese learner can apply his knowledge and skill with fellow language learner, starting from daily conversation and get know and accustomed with new term before go practices with native speaker. More and more experience that Japanese learner got from communication and applying their skill in Japanese language will come in hand compared with only learning language using printed media, such as books and magazines.

Variations of Japanese language are more or less same with Indonesian language. Japan is being an Islands filled country, has a lots of interesting dialects that suitable to be research and learning subject. People in Hokkaido, northern Japan of course using different dialect with the usual dialect of people in Okinawa, southern island in Japan. Vocabulary and suffix probably one of the most conspicuous differences of those dialects, but Japanese people is using Tokyo dialect as national language and it's the one that Japanese learners from Indonesia is studying that one.

Japanese vocabulary

Japanese vocabulary
The first thing that probably appeared inside the head of someone who is learning foreign language is what kind of method that he should apply so he can improve his unlimited new foreign language vocabularies? Furthermore, it’s going to be tough if that foreign language has special letters that quite different with his first language, such as Japanese language, it will add more questions that has possibility to appear in the future. Will he able to get the competency to write and memorize those letters’ shape and practice in order to understand how its work? It’s different with someone that decided only to learn foreign language orally, memorizing those new letters probably turned out to be not their first priority.

The easiest way to learn foreign language is listening to conversation and reading simple text every day. Listening to music or sometimes short conversation will improve listening capability and makes him accustomed with each words intonation that he could only get from them and not from printed media. Reading simple text and puts some underlines in some parts could be a got study supplement, of course using dictionary as tool is a good idea.
If those learners are already mastering and understand how to use Japanese well but still haven’t tried an orally one, it is the time to try to learn how to do it. Social media and another media are growing rapidly these days and creating a good possibility to get one or more friends from the country that has Sakura flower for its specialty. Short and easy for a nice start chat could influence how that communication process in the future, which gradually will develop by the time. Of course Japanese vocabulary will grow as well, so does addition concerning daily words, culture, and newest information about their country. This will be one of the proofs how the harmonious friendship is materialized between two countries.

Role of interpreter

Professional translators are not widely known is the official interpreter services or interpreter. Unlike the usual translator who served translate written text, the translator is responsible for translating spoken words, speeches, discussions, or conversations in a language and then re-verbally conveyed into the target language. So far the only considered interpreter's role was limited to the state level alone, but along with the development of the world and globalization, business, academic, social and cultural to many who need the services of an interpreter. Official interpreter services will be needed for events involving foreigners or people who use a language other than Indonesian as strangers seminar with speakers, the conference which was attended by delegates from various countries, corporate training, public lectures involving lecturers from abroad, discussion, business negotiations between the two companies different countries, up to non-formal events such as trips. For events that are very formal or unenforceable such as tribunal involving someone from abroad as a suspect, it needed the services of a sworn interpreter. Interpreter or officially sworn interpreter services are those specifically appointed by the court because it has a special qualification which has an official certificate or a sworn certificate and has local Governor License. Interpreter services are more expensive when compared to regular interpreter services because of the difficulty faced by the translator. In the usual translation, a translator can edit or fix it in the editing process. Such a thing can not be done by an interpreter because he had to do over the language as quickly as possible so the client to say something. An interpreter requires high concentrations to understand every word spoken by their clients and have to do the translation with great care because the translated speech can not be corrected or repeated. So, if you have a special event involving foreigners as speakers or performers, there is no harm in using interpreter services to support the smooth running of the event that you hold.

code of conduct for japanese translator

Have they ever cross in their mind to introduce kind of Code of Conduct among translators, especially when there is fast growing need for translating Japanese language

Either from or especially to Japanese by SwornTranslator, has become a demanding need nowadays as result of increasing business interaction between Indonesia and other Chinese speaking countries.

Unfortunately, we only have limited number of Sworn Translator. Lately we often, have to wait a couple of weeks or even more, for translation. One day I sent an email to one of senior Sworn Translator for Japanese to reconsider the need of Official Japanese translation, but he seemed only care on his individual business and ignore my friendly suggestion for him to have staffs doing translation and he still have to check before affixing signature and his Seal of Sworn Translator, or even turned down my offer, proposing few students of Japanese Languages form University of Indonesia.

What are they, Sworn Translators, those are people who have passed the test conducted by International Languages Institutions (LBI) of University of Indonesia. Test which is conducted once a year and only for one direction (e.g. Indonesian to Japanese or Japanese to Indonesia) for US 150.- each. Then along with many other translators who have passed the test, brought to Governor of Jakarta for issuing Governor’s Decree as Sworn Translator. And according to reliable sources, Governor of Jakarta did not issue Decree for Sworn Translation for the last 2 (two) years.

And this make things even worse, one day I call Japanese embassy and asking if it is OK to translate from large number of documents by Japanese (where I have to translate from Indonesia to English, because original document were in Indonesian), then return them to Indonesia to be signed and Sealed by Indonesian Sworn Translator for Japanese. But of course the wording in Affidavit shall have to be altered from “having been translated by” into “the translation have been examined by” as asked by Registered Sworn Translator in Indonesia.
